The Omani desert reimagined in Seongsu At the heart of the boutique, a series of sculptural interpretations conceived by the multidisciplinary studio Karim + Elias reinterpret sand at a monumental scale. In its purest form, the installation imagines spheres as grains of sand dispersed across the space: clustered, suspended, and accumulated as if carried by unseen winds. These spheres are crafted using compressed sand, developed through the age-old technique of rammed earth. A proportionate mix of earth, clay, and water is hand-pressed in sedimentary layers, preserving a method that dates back thousands of years and has historically been used to construct habitable shelters from locally sourced materials. Here, the material is drawn from desert sand and composed in varying densities, combining different granular sizes to create nuanced textures and structural integrity. A central sculptural mound emerges as the base of an hourglass, created by @karimandelias , rising in a pyramidal formation, evoking both the passage of time and the silent force of accumulation. Elsewhere, screens of sand spheres form porous partitions, subtly shaping movement and perspective while introducing moments of opacity and lightness throughout the interior. The dialogue begins at the façade, where the Amouage emblem is embedded within stratified layers of sand, recalling the close study of a single grain, its texture and trajectory, its quiet permanence. Within, the space is defined by contrast: loose and columnar sand spheres, mineral-toned walls, and arched stone displays create a landscape of structure and erosion. Delicate sand dunes settle in quiet corners, as if shaped by the unseen winds of time. Scale and materiality become narrative tools, transforming the boutique into an architectural expression of origin, deliberate, grounded, and unmistakably Omani.
